A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Crowley for Ashton Allen Cassedy, 82, who died at his residence after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Fr. Mikel Polson and Fr. Gary Schexnayder will celebrate the Mass. The family requests visiting hours Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. The Lady Queen of All Saints Rosary Group will pray the Rosary on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. Sister Justina Baker will recite a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Entombment will be in the St. Joseph Mausoleum in Rayne, LA.

Coach Cassedy was born in Statesboro, GA to Rustin and Josie Cassedy. He served in the US Army. He played football for Georgia Southern and McNeese where he earned his Masters degree. He taught and coached football at St. Michael and Notre Dame High School for 30 years.

He was married for 44 years to Alice Elaine LeBlanc Cassedy. He is survived by two sons, Allen Cassedy and his wife Romna, and Rustin Cassedy, his daughter Mollie Hanks and her husband Bobby, his daughter-in-law Gretchen Zaunbrecher and seven grandchildren, Caroline and Jack Cassedy, Megan and Madeline Cassedy, and Matthew, Nicholas and Isabelle Hanks. He also leaves behind a brother, Coley Cassedy and his wife Patricia and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Elaine, his parents Josie and Rustin Cassedy, two brothers Joe Ben and James Cassedy, two sisters-in-law Glenda and Suzanne Cassedy, and a grandson, Rustin Roy Cassedy.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons Matthew and Nicholas Hanks, nephews Collin and Craig Cassedy, and friends Wingy Keigley, Donnie Gaspard and Gerald Dill.
