Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 20, 2013, at Westminister Memoral Park Chapel in Westminister, California, for James Michael Morgan, 76, who died Friday, January 11, 2012 at Kindred Long Term Acute Care Hospital in Westminister, Calif.

Morgan, a Rayne native, residing in Cypress, Calif., for the past 53 years.

He was a retired United State Navy veteran, enlisting in the Navy upon graduating from Rayne High in 1955 and was stationed at the Naval Training Center in San Diego.

Throughout his naval career, he was stationed in Oahu, Hawaii, assigned to the submarine USS Harder in New London, Conn., the USS Johnson in Charleston, S.C., the USS Sperry in San Diego, and the USS Piedmont in Long Beach. He was assigned to the Seal Beach naval weapons station in the calibration lab, where he later became lab supervisor.

He retired in 1978 as Senior Chief Petty Officer, later returning to the lab as a civil service instructor.

He enjoyed country music, camping and belonged to several military golf leagues. A true Cajun country boy, he loved coming home to visit family, craving gumbo, cracklins and boudin.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Antonette Borach Morgan; one son, James Michael Morgan, Jr., of Cypress, Calif.; three daughters Cindy M. McDonald and husband, John, of Anaheim, CAlif., Karen M. Cornelius, and husband, Bruce, of Franklinton, Tenn. and Debbie M. Powell of Garden Grove, Calif.; one brother, Weldon “Billy” Morgan and wife, Patsy, of Port Barre; two sisters,Katherine Guidry of Crowley and Betty Thevis of Rayne; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Archie and Amanda Dupont Morgan; sister, Melba Morgan Mizell; brothers, Milton “Sunny” Morgan and Edward Leroy Morgan; and a great-nephew infant Scott Anthony Guidry.
