LAKE ARTHUR – A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Arthur on Friday, Feb. 15, at 10 a.m. to honor the life of Paul Gilbert Broussard. He was 67 years old. Paul will be laid to rest in St. Anthony Cemetery where he will be honored with full military rites. Msgr. Ronald Groth will officiate his service.

Paul Gilbert Broussard, was born Dec. 29, 1945 in Crowley to the late Ella Mae Leger and Gilbert Broussard.

He passed away Feb. 9, 2013 at his residence in Sulphur where he was surrounded by all his children and family. He was a resident of Sulphur for the past 15 years and a resident of Lake Arthur for 22 years prior where he was an active member of his community. He was a member of the VFW, volunteered his service with the parks and recreations, served as a little league baseball coach, and was a part-time sheriff deputy for Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff Department. He was a mentor to his kids and everyone who he came in contact with. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew of him. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Independence from 1965-1967 where he served three tours in Vietnam and was Honorably Discharged. During his service to his country he earned the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star and the National Defense Service Medal. He worked in the oilfield as a production supervisor for Kaiser Francis.

He is preceded in death by his son, John Barry (Bee) Broussard; and his two half-brothers, Walter Quibodeaux and Leo Quibodeaux.

Mr. Broussard is survived by his wife of four years, Kathryn Broussard of Sulphur. Mr. Broussard is also survived by his five sons, Paul Broussard II, Rayburn and wife Lorraine Broussard, Edward and wife Angie Broussard, T. J. Broussard and girlfriend Tonya Brunner and Grant Broussard; his brother, Tippy Broussard of Crowley; his sister, Judy Breaux; two half-sisters, Carolyn Quibodeaux and Sarah George, and his half-brother, Dean Broussard; 13 grandchildren, Jasmine, Sadie, Madison, Emily, Madeline, Cheynne, Evan, Kade, Kaleb, Kaitlyn, Grant, Craig and Jeremie Broussard; step-grandchildren, Sean, Rocky and Joel; and two great-grandchildren, Kaiden and Todd.

The family would also like to thank Tonya Brunner, T. J. Broussard, their four kids, and Carolyn Quibodeaux who came into Mr. Broussard’s home to help take care of him during his battle with cancer.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Matthews & Son Funeral Home in Lake Arthur on Thursday, Feb. 14 from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Friday, Feb. 15 at 8 a.m. until the time of his funeral mass.

Carrying Paul to his eternal resting place in St. Anthony Cemetery will be Clint, Lee and Herman Breaux, Grant Broussard II, Kade Broussard and Kevin Holley. Honorary pallbearers will be Joel Brunner and Mike Miles.
