Pansy’s Post-Mastectomy Boutique, 2400 Garden Lakes Boulevard, serves the needs of women who have suffered from cancer Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The business was named after Pansy Dorling who passed away in August of 2010 after a long bout with cancer. Since that time, her son, Ken Gowey and a long time friend, Diane Coker have kept the boutique an important part of the community. “It was my mothers idea to start it,” Gowey said. “This was her store and always will be.”
The boutique stocks a wide variety of merchandise ranging from wigs, sleepwear, turbans, scarves and camisoles.
Coker and Gowey both said they give each customer as much individual attention as they need. Women who need full reconstructive surgery can take comfort in the knowledge that the team at Pansy’s is able to provide comfortable fitted merchandise to meet their needs from right after surgery, up until they are fitted with prosthesis.
“We try our best to match their natural hair,” Coker said. We’re constantly updating our wigs, the new Smart Lace designs, you can’t even tell it’s a wig.”
While the shop is open Mopnday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.,Coker said that she and Gowey are also willing to meet with clients after hours as necessary. Simply call the office at (706) 232-6600 to schedule an appointment.
An important part of the shop at Pansy’s is a section called the Angel Closet. It’s a good selection of used merchandise that previous clients have taken good care of and brought back to the shop to help women who might otherwise not be able to afford the specialty items.
