Ross Head Start celebrated Fire Prevention Week by learning about fire prevention and what to do in case of fire. The Crowley Fire Department even stopped by and gave the students a tour of a fire truck and introduced them to Pluggie, the fire hydrant. The students enjoyed Pluggie’s song about fire prevention as well as being sprayed.

As a part of the ongoing Elder Quest challenge, Southwind Assisted Living donated toys to the Faith House. Southwind celebrated a “Jamaican Christmas” by eating traditional Jamaican foods and decorating the center in Jamaican colors. Donations came from staff members, residents and the community. An advocate for Faith House, Rockie Oge, was present to accept the donation on behalf of Faith House from Southwind’s staff and residents. On hand were kneeling, from left, Jill Signorelli, Laurie Bellard, and Sandra Griffin. Sitting are Cathy Guidry and Audrey Petitjean. Standing are Rockie Oge, Jill Villejoin, and Kathy Gautreaux.

Caitlyn Bush, the daughter of Barry and Kay Bush of Jennings, was crowned Notre Dame High School’s 2010 Homecoming Queen by 2001 Homecoming Queen Camille Gueno. The Pioneers won their game against the St. Louis Saints Friday night by score of 17-14.

Southwind Assisted Living resident Jim Mamoulides’ hobby is putting together puzzles, which in Jim’s case isn’t nearly as easy as it sounds. He has been working on a 1500 piece puzzle of Chicago for the past three weeks and some of his prior puzzles have taken over a month. Mamoulides is a World War II veteran.

In honor of Assisted Living Week, about one-third of Southwind Assisted Living’s residents and several staff members released balloons. Southwind Assisted Living also held a hamburger sale with proceeds going to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Several residents also helped with the packaging of the hamburgers as well.
