Crowley Mayor Greg Jones signed a proclamation designating Saturday, August 21, 2010 as Churches Coming Together Day. Nine churches from different denominations met Saturday at the Martin Luther King Center in Crowley in a show of unity. Those in attendance for the proclamation signing were LaVera George, Treasurer; Beverly Garrick, T-shirt committee chairperson; Mayor Jones, Sheral Garrick, vice chairperson; and Lula Sanderford, food committee chairperson.

According to Cal Simar, supervisior of school welfare and attendance for the Acadia Parish School Board, first day tallies of students showed a slight increase in the number of parish public school students. The first day figure was 8,131, compared to 8,096 counted at the beginning of last year’s fall enrollment.
