The 13th Annual Project Pink, Breast Cancer Awareness event was held Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010 at the Rayne Civic Center as announced by chairperson Theresa Prather.

During the past 12 years of the annual event, Beta Sigma Phi’s chapter of Preceptor Alpha Chi has made donations to The Susan G. Koeman Foundation for breast cancer awareness.

An opening prayer was led by Kelsie Primeaux, 2010 Miss Rayne.

The local organization, for the third year, honored someone who has succumbed to this dreadful disease, the event held in memory of Irene Brown. Instead of dwelling on the sorrow of the loss, her life was honored by naming Project Pink 2010, Irene Brown Day. The late Mrs. Brown was a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi and remembered for her dedication to the organization.

Myrtis Haure, breast cancer survivor, was named “2010 Project Pink Ambassador.” She was crowned by the 2009 ambassador, Bonnie Boudreaux.

A silent auction was also held, along with the awarding of door prizes and the sale of T-shirts and various breast cancer related items.

Persons on the “Honors List” (purchase in the name of someone for $2 each) was read during the day as follows: Pink Heart – Cancer Survivor; Angel – Memory of a loved one; and Breast Cancer Ribbon – Breast Cancer Survivor.

Exhibitors participating in the event were Susan G. Komen Acadiana Affiliate, Oncologics, Inc. of Lafayette, and Terry’s Medical of Lafayette.

A Pink Hat Contest and Pretty in Pink for ages 0 – 12 were held. Two divisions were included for each division with queens and public invited to participate. Prizes were awarded.

The Crowley High Topper Staff presented Theresa Prather with Project Pink a check in the amount of $50.
