2 Eunice men held in home invasion, theft; third sought

Two Eunice men are in custody and a third is sought in the invasion of a St. Landry Parish home and subsequent theft of guns, jewelry and a safe, and a truck to carry it in.

Deputies said the unidentified victim was awakened at a Sunset home about 3 a.m. by three men wearing ski masks and gloves. Two were armed - one with a pistol and the other an assault rifle.

The victim stated he was pulled from his bed and bound with duct tape around his hands and feet.

The victim stated after being tied up, the suspects went through the home which belongs to his father. taking guns, jewelry and a black safe containing antique coins and antique money valued at $55,000.

The victim stated they also stole his dually pickup truck, which they used to haul the safe from the home. The truck was later discovered by Evangeline Sheriff’s Office in Evangeline Parish.

After a long investigation following the May 1 incident, evidence was obtained which lead to a number of subjects questioned in regards to this incident. Detectives were able to obtain enough information which lead to recovery of two guns.

Detectives arrested Allen C. Matt, 31, of 1562 Duralde Hwy. and Drakeeno R. Mitchell, 19, of 100 Crestview Dr. on the charges of Armed Robbery, False Imprisonment, Home Invasion, Unauthorized use of a Motor Vehicle, and Theft (Felony).

An arrest warrant was issued for Gerald J. Matt, Jr. on the above charges in connection with the incident.
