Two St. Landry Parish School Board members face federal charges stemming from their allegedly trying to sell their votes for selection of a superintendent.

Reliable sources in that city tell Louisiana State Newspapers that John Miller and Quincy Richard have been indicted by a federal grand jury sitting in Shreveport.

Notice of the three-count indictments was in transit Thursday to the Lafayette Division of the Western District Court of Louisiana.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Lafayette was unable to confirm the report at mid-day.

The indictments charge that each defendant solicited money from Joseph Cassimere for their support in the superintendent’s selection.

Cassimere, acting superintendent since March, is one of five applicants for the permanent appointment.

The selection has been indefinitely postponed pending outcome of the investigation involving Miller and Richard.

In September, the FBI confirmed that it was investigation allegations against them and an agent met them late at night at a gasoline station as part of a sting operation.

Details regarding who made the allegations have not yet been made public.

Neither Cassimere nor the accused have yet commented on the matter.
