ABBEVILLE – Officials are at a loss to explain the presence of a skeleton found in a chimney in a bank building.

On Thursday, contractors remodeling Bank of Abbeville discovered the skeletal remains.

According to head of the detectives for the Abbeville Police Department, David Hardy, a skeleton was located on the second floor of the Bank of Abbeville.

Hardy said the bones were taken to the Acadian Crime Lab in New Iberia to hopefully identify the body.

He said there was no way to tell who the person is or if it is a male or female.

He also did not know how long the person had been stuck in the chimney or why the person was there.
