Acadiana 6

Notre Dame 3

CROWLEY – The Notre Dame Pioneers dropped their fifth straight game, falling to Class 5A Acadiana Thursday evening at Miller Stadium.

The Pios (3-6) gave up two runs in the top of the first inning and found themselves trailing 3-0 in the top of the third.

In the bottom of the third, the Pios rallied to tie the game after Nick Gossen and Connor Goss started things with back-to-back singles. The Rams aided in the rally with three straight errors that led to three runs.

The Pios, held to just two hits, returned the favor in the sixth inning with a one-out error that led to an unearned run.

The Rams added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh on two hits, an intentional walk and one error.

Acadiana’s Ty Neef was credited with the victory. He struck out seven in seven innings.

Matt Venable gave up five runs (three earned) in five innings in absorbing the loss. He surrendered six hits and walked one while striking out three.

Chance Vincent led the Rams’ seven-hit attack with a 3-for-4 performance that included a double, a triple and two RBI. Stryker Trahan was 1-for-3 with a triple.

Gossen and Goss had the only hits for the Pios.

Barbel 11

Crowley 1

LAKE CHARLES – Class 5A power Barbe scored 10 runs in the first inning and coasted to a five-inning, run-rule victory over Crowley Thursday in the opening game of the Barbe Tournament.

The Gents took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning before Evangel’s outburst in the bottom half.

Brody Deshotel suffered the loss, giving up 10 runs on four hits and five walks in one inning.

Deshotel also had one hit and drove in one run for the Gents. Bradley Ancelet and Mickey Morgan each had a single in the lossing effort.

Iota 9

Northside 3

EUNICE – The Iota Bulldogs ended a four-game slide by defeating Northside Thursday in the opening round of the Eunice Bobcat Tournament.

Michael Thevis led the Bulldogs with two hits and a RBI. Alex Gordon had one hit, a double, and drove in four runs.

Thevis was also credited with the victory. He gave up three runs on three hits and six walks while striking out eight in five innings.

North Vermilion 4

Northside Christ. 1

LEROY – Northside Christian was limited to just two hits and fell to 1-3 on the season with a road loss to Class 3A North Vermilion Thursday evening.

North Vermilion took a 2-0 advantage in the third inning off NCS hurler Jordan Monte.

The Warriors cut the lead to one (2-1) in the top of the fourth but the Patriots answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame.

Monte suffered the loss, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks. He struck out one in four innings.

Josh Wheeler had a double for the Warriors and Nick Zaunbrecher added a single.

SOFTBALL

Crowley 7

S. Beauregard 1

CROWLEY – The Crowley Ladies improved to 5-5 overall and 1-1 in District 4-3A play with a victory over South Beauregard Thursday.

Olivia Boullion picked up the victory in the circle after giving up one run on two hits and two walks. She struck out eight in seven innings.

The Ladies banged out nine hits on the day. Heather Trahan led the way with three hits. Skylor Huval added two hits, both doubles, and two RBI. Jessica Powell also had two hits and one RBI while Taylor Grabowski had two singles.

Iota 1

Bunkie 0

IOTA – A sacrifice fly in the sixth inning by Abigail Leonards lifted Iota past Bunkie Thursday evening.

The Lady Dogs improved to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in league play with the victory.

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when Gabbi Heinen singled and stole all the way around to third base. Two batters later, Leonards flied out to left field, allowing Heinen to tag up and score the eventual winning run.

Leonards was also impressive in the circle, tossing a no-hitter at the Lady Panthers. She had one walk and struck out seven.

Heinen, Rae-Leigh Johnson, Holly Guillory and April Sensat each had one hit for the Lady Dogs.

Other Action

The Notre Dame Lady Pios fell to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in District 4-3A play Thursday with a 3-0 loss to league favorite Iowa.

No further information was reported on that contest.
