Adriana Louise Matte, the 16-year-old daughter of Keith and Mendy Matte of Branch, was named the new Miss Rayne on Saturday, August 27, during the 2011 Miss Rayne competition held at the Rayne Civic Center by the City of Rayne carrying a “Glamour Girl” theme.

Adriana is a senior at Rayne High School where she keeps busy with school organizations including cheerleading, traveling, family and friends, and a number of school clubs including National Honor Society and Student Council. She also keeps busy with church activities, gymnastics, sports and genealogy.

Crowning her successor was the 2010 honoree, Kelsey Primeaux. Assisting with the presentations were Mayor Jim Petitjean, Councilman Calise Doucet, and committee members Josie Henry and William LeBlanc.

Named First Runner-Up and princess to the Ray*la*ne Festival was Lindsey Marie LeBlanc, 16-year-old daughter of David and Tammy LeBlanc of Rayne. Taylor is a junior at Notre Dame High School of Acadia Parish in Crowley. Making her presentations was committee member Angie Broussard.

Lindsey was also presented the People’s Choice Award during the pageant, awarded to the contestant as it is voted upon by the attending audience. She was awarded by committee member Ellen Guidry.

Selected Second Runner-Up and Princess to the International Rice Festival in Crowley next month was Taylor Faith Venable, 19-year-old daughter of Daniel and Terri Venable of Rayne. She is a sophomore at The University of Louisiana in Lafayette majoring in nursing. Making her presentation was Angelle Toups, former Miss Rayne.

Taylor Paige Hollier was named Third Runner-Up and Princess to the Church Point Buggy Festival. The 17-year-old daughter of Sammy and Paula Hollier is a senior at Rayne High School. Making her presentations were City Councilman Gerald Foreman and former title holder Jennifer James Autin.

Kristen Paige Petitjean was awarded the Miss Congeniality banner by former Miss Rayne honoree Ariel Mire. Kristen is the 17-year-old daughter of Brian and Carol Petitjean of Rayne and a senior at Rayne High School. This special award is voted upon by the contestants following weeks of preparations and events attended by the contestants.

Serving as emcee and chairperson for the event was Rayne Cultural Director Cheryl Richard.

The competition for Miss Rayne consisted of the following segments: interview, sportswear, introductions, with a circus themed dance number, evening gown, and an on-stage conversation with Mayor Jim Petitjean.

Judges were Mandy Blackmon, Ronda Trahan and Charlotte Jeffers.

Committee members were Angie Broussard, William LeBlanc, Ellen Guidry, Brooke Berzas, Josie Henry, Allison Dischler, Bre Domingue, Brittany Arabie, Dana Fontenot, Rick Jones, Miles Boudreaux and Nikki Link.

In addition to the numerous special guests in attendance were a number of past Miss Rayne title holders, including Angelle Venable Toups (2003), Mandy Quebodeaux Blackmon (2004), Ariel Mire (2005), Jennifer James Autin (2001), Dakota Henry (2009), Shelly Melancon Rhodes (1992).
