LAFAYETTE – Mass services will be held Friday, November 5, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for Mr. Alex “Brud” Broussard, Sr., 84, who passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at Rapides Regional Hospital in Alexandria.



Interment will follow at a later date at the request of family.

Reverend Father A. Rex Broussard, Jr., Pastor of St. Basil Church in Judice, will officiate.

Mr. Broussard was born August 19, 1926 in Maurice and was a lifelong resident of Acadiana. Brud was a proud veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of VFW Post 9822 in Judice and was Commander of the Disabled Veterans of Louisiana.

Mr. Broussard was an accomplished pilot, farmer and well-known Cajun musician in Lafayette Parish. He was a regular guest on the Grand Ole’ Opry and hosted multiple Cajun music shows. Brud helped build Acadian Village and the St. Basil Church, Hall and Park. He donated the use of his land for the Judice Trail Ride each year and built the Fire Station in Judice. He loved Acadiana and was a strong and giving man who most loved music, helping others and spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed.



Mr. Broussard is survived by his wife, Betty Michaud Broussard, of Lafayette; six children, sons Alex Broussard, Jr. and his wife, Tonia and Keith Broussard and his wife, Darlene, all of Duson and daughters Jodie Broussard, also of Duson, Tammy Broussard, of Lafayette, Charity McConnell, of Tacoma, WA and Gloria Choate Trahan and her husband, Bradley of Abbeville; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and his three brothers, Floyd Broussard and his wife, Debbie, June Broussard and his wife, Jane and Andrew “Thib” Broussard and his wife, Faye, all of Duson.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. Lovely Broussard, of Maurice and the former Theresa Sonnier, of Judice; one son, Kenneth Broussard; and his sister Dorothy Credeur.

The family requests that visiting hours at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette be observed on Thursday, November 4, 2010 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. and resume on Friday, November 5, 2010 at 8 a.m. until time of services.

A rosary will be recited on Thursday evening, November 4, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the Fountain Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.

Honorary Bearers are Nicholas Broussard, Stephan Broussard, Carl Errol Doucet, Joseph Keith Duhon and Bradley Trahan.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Rapides Regional Hospital in Alexandria for the compassionate care given to Mr. Broussard and his family.
