CROWLEY - The 2012 All-Star Softball Regional tournament that was slated for Crowley this past weekend was canceled due to inclement weather and wet field conditions at the Crowley Recreation Department.

“We had to cancel the tournament this weekend and we can’t have it next weekend because it would be too close to the national tournament,” said Crowley Recreation Department director Timmy Robichaux. “Nationals is the Tuesday after next weekend, so the regional won’t be played this year. All the teams will now just move on to nationals.

“With all the rain this week, our fields just never ever dried out,” said Robichaux. “Five of the eight fields we planed to play on were skinned areas so we didn’t want teams from Texas and all over to come down here and stay in hotels and sit around for two days without being able to play.”

Crowley had four teams slated to compete in the regional tournament. Three of the four teams - the 8U Diamond Divas, the 12U Xtreme and the 14U Pride - will advance to the national tournament in Mandeville beginning on July 24. The 10U Crowley Divas are undecided on whether or not they will make the trip.
