State Police said Barbara Jacob, 56, who was not wearing protective or reflective gear, was riding on Gardere Lane near Nicholson Drive when hit from behind by a vehicle driven by Darby Griffin, 49, of Baton Rouge. She was then run over by an on-coming vehicle. Cause of death is still to be determined.
The second driver called police; Griffin kept going.
A Baton Rouge woman was killed late Sunday after she was knocked off her bicycle by one vehicle and hit by another on Gardere Lane near Nicholson Drive, a State Police spokesman said.
Griffin was charged with DWI, hit and run, driving under suspension and no seat belt. State Police said other charges are pending.
State Police did not indicated where Griffins was located.
Hammons also declined to say where authorities located Griffin and how they determined he was impaired at the time of the crash.
Public records show Griffin was convicted of first-offense DWI in 2002. He got a year’s probation.
