BATON ROUGE - Alton D. “Shorty" Stutes, a native of Crowley and resident of Baton Rouge, died on Sunday, September 5, 2010 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. He was 74. Stutes was a retired mechanic for Commercial Fleet and a parts runner for Woodale Trucking.

Visitation was at Pugh’s Mortuary at 58233 Plaquemines St. in Plaquemines on Saturday, September 11, 2010 from 9 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. Interment is in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Stutes is survived by two sons, Melvin and Ronnie Stutes; daughter, Melva S. Tate; beloved sister, Mary Jane LeBleu; nephew and spouse, Charles and Brenda Manuel; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents, Peyton and Rachel Stutes; and four brothers, Calvin, Leroy, Weldon and Roland Stutes; and a sister, Cloney Bell S. Manuel.
