Not one, but two boxing shows were presented last weekend for local and area fight fans.

On Friday, Aug. 10, the Frog Capital Boxing Club presented “Belt Time In Frog Town” at the Rayne Civic Center.

A number of local and area amateur boxers took to the squared circle in search of winning belts, including members of the Frog Capital Boxing Club.

Frog Capital boxers claiming wins were Alysha Martin at 85 lbs., Dillon Landry at 110 lbs., Nakil Harmon and Drave Joseph at 114 lbs., Layton Steiner at 150 lbs. and Kentrill Alexander at 152 lbs.

Special thanks to Tankline Bullies for their sponsorship.

“Saturday Showdown” was a professional show presented by Boxncar Promotions on Saturday, Aug. 11, at Evangeline Downs Racetrack, Casino and Hotel in Opelousas.

Opening the night of action-packed boxing was Dylon Hollier who scored a knockdown for a win.

Chris Singleton and Aaron Anderson was next on the fight card. Singleton landed a right-handed, followed by a left hook for the win improving his record to 6-0 and 3 KO’s.

Travis Scott bedazzled Joshua Burns with his speed and accuracy, hitting him with pot shot, after pot shot. Scott was in total control of this bout, ignoring the big shots he occasionally received from Burns. Scott worked the ring and once again proved he is a true talent in the boxing game closing with a blistering pace the final two rounds for the win. He now stand at 11-0 in his professional career.

Cody “The Kid” Richard, and his followers from Orange, Texas, scored a TKO over Erick Hernandez Perez of Arkansas, moving his slate to 11-0, as well.

The main event of the evening, “Rock Hard Mighty” Mason Menard took on Ivan Ortero of the Dominican Republic. Once again, Menard had chin tested and proved his toughness. The UBO Champion began his bout a little slower then normal, but Menard landed his jab and occasional 1-2 at will on Ivan. Ortero stole a couple of rounds with big shots in 4-5 punch combo’s, but Menard fired back. After six rounds, the match-up was basically dead even. Menard came out in the final round and claimed another big win.
