Amelie “Toot” Mumphrey, wife of the first chancellor of Louisiana State University Eunice, died Aug. 9 at Savoy Medical Center in Mamou. She was 85.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Eunice. Rite of Committal will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Father Cedric Sonnier Celebrant.

“Toot” was a former elementary school teacher.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Anthony Mumphrey of Eunice; her four sons, Joseph Scott Mumphrey and wife, Suzanne of Noblesville, Ind., Ray Anthony Mumphrey and wife, Verna, Michael Louis Mumphrey and wife, Kaprice, all of Baton Rouge, Robert Neil Mumphrey and wife, Amber of Salisbury, Md.; her three daughters, Peggy Broussard of Gonzales, Robbie Anne Savoy and husband, L.D. and Terri Geralyn Fuselier and husband, Jerry, all of Eunice; 12 grandchildren, Scotty, Brian, Tina, Lisa, Angie, Ryan, Lynsie, Preston, Sara, Matthew, Brodie, and Kelsie and 11 great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Marie Mumphrey; her parents, Matheu and Clara Waguespack Robert; her brother, James Joseph Robert, Sr. and a grandson, Tristan Mumphrey.

Visitation at Ardoin's will be on Tuesday, August 10th from 11:00 am until 9:00 pm and again on Wednesday, August 11th from 7:00 am until time of services. Deacon David Guillory will recite a Rosary at 7:00 pm Tuesday.
