Baggett twins lead charge as McNeese takes on UL-Lafayette

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese State's women's basketball team (3-3) will travel East on I-10 Thursday for a 7 p.m. game at UL-Lafayette (3-3) in the Earl K. Long Gym on the UL-Lafayette campus.

The Cowgirls are coming off a come from behind 63-62 win over Colgate in the consolation game of the Courtyard LaGuardia Turkey Classic last week.

Sophomore guard Ashlyn Baggett continues to lead the Cowgirls in scoring and is the only player averaging in double figures with 15.2 ppg. Baggett also leads the team with a 40.9 three-point field goal percent and 2.5 steals per game.

Junior forward Kendra Wells leads the team with 6.7 rpg. while senior forward Kiara Johnson is averaging 6.5 rpg.

Sophomore guard Caitlyn Baggett is the team leader with 3.2 apg., a 88.9 free throw shooting percent and is second with 2.2 steals per game.

UL-Lafayette enters the game on a two game winning streak after a 88-27 road win at New Orleans Monday night. Other wins for UL-Lafayette have been over LSU-Shreveport and Murray State. The Ragin' Cajuns have two players currently averaging in double figures and are led by junior forward Mercedes Johnson's 16.5 ppg. Danyell Oliver, a junior shooting guard has been coming off the bench to average 11.8 ppg. Guard Jasmine Barnes leads UL-Lafayette with 6.0 rpg.

McNeese leads the all-time series 26-12 but fell to UL-Lafayette 82-68 in Lake Charles last season. The Cowgirls defeated the Ragin' Cajuns by 10 points in Lafayette during the 2008-09 season.
