The Cowgirls finished the regular season with a record of 26-6 before falling to eventual national champion Texas A&M, 87-47, in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
For their efforts, the twin guards from Iota, were both selected to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Women’s Basketball Team that was recently announced.
Ashlyn earned first team honors after averaging 16.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game this year. Caitlyn earned honorable mention honors after averaging 11.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists.
McNeese’s Brooks Donald-Williams earned Coach of the Year honors while Louisiana Tech forward Adrienne Johnson was named the Player of the Year.
Norhwestern State’s Jordi James was named the Newcomer of the Year and Nicholls State’s KK Babin was tabbed as the Freshman of the Year.
Johnson and Baggett are joing on the LSWA first team by LSU forward LoSondra Barrett, Louisiana College forward Tillisha Givens and Tulane guard Danielle Nunn.
The second team is comprised of Loyola’s Keiva Council, UL-Lafayette’s Mercedes Johnson, LSU’s Adrienne Webb, Nicholls State’s Ricshanda Bickham and Louisiana Tech’s Tarkeisha Wysinger-Mackey.
The third team is made up of Tulane’s Tiffany Aido, Southern’s Hannah Kador, Grambling’s Secrett Anderson, Xavier’s Christina Warren and Babin.
Caitlyn is joined on the honorable mention list with six other players including Southern’s Freda Allen, Tulane’s Roshaunda Barnes, Louisiana Tech’s Jasmine Bendolph, Loyola’s Jasmine Brewer, LSU-Shreveport’s Sharday Cotton and Northwestern’s James.
