Following an investigation into the incident deputies and officials with Wildlife and Fisheries believe that the bear returned to the woods but caution residents not to approach the bear should you come in contact with one.
In an unrelated incident, 17 year old Corneka Robinson of Josie Drive, Crowley has been charged with attempted second degree murder following an investigation into an incident that occurred on Tuesday at Meadows Apartments in Crowley.
According to Sheriff Melancon his office received a call around 10 p.m. that a stabbing had occurred at the Complex. Upon arrival the 17-year-old female victim had been transferred to the American Legion Hospital and later a Lafayette hospital with multiple life-threatening stab wounds to her body.
Robinson was placed in the Acadia Parish Jail with bond set at $50,000 by District Judge John Trahan. The victim remains in a Lafayette Hospital listed as stable.
On Monday Chase Benoit, age 19 of Jennings pled “no contest” to two counts of attempted second degree murder. The charges stem from an incident in which a Basile couple was stabbed on December 30, 2006 at their residence located on Jolene Road in Basile.
District Judge Glenn Everett sentenced Benoit to 15 years hard labor without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.
