The Iota High Bulldogs used a six-run seventh inning to take a 10-9 come-from-behind win over the Rayne High Wolves Tuesday afternoon during diamond action.
Rayne High held a 9-4 lead heading into the final inning of play when the Bulldogs slapped in six runs on five hits for the Iota win.
Ty Delahoussaye had the start on the mound for the Wolves and threw six innings when he struck out six batters while giving up five runs and seven hits. In Cameron Falcon’s inning, he was tagged with the loss.
The Wolves spread out 10 hits in five innings for nine runs, led by: Thibodeaux 1 hit 2 runs; Quebedeaux 2 hits, 3 RBI’s; Keely 1 hit, 1 RBI; Meche 1 hit, 1 run, 1 RBI; Dupuis 2 hits, 1 run, 1 RBI; Menard 1 hit, 2 runs, 1 RBI; and LeJeune 2 hits, 2 runs, 2 RBI’s.
The Wolves participated in the Sam Houston Tournament over the weekend with a 1-3 record.
In their first contest, the Wolves claimed a 7-5 win over Westlake. In a tied contest going into the final inning of play, Rayne scored two runs for the win. Tyler LeJeune collected the win on the mound for the Wolves with three strikeouts, three hits and one base on balls.
Collecting hits for the win were Dupuis, Abshire, Thibodeaux, Keely, Menard, Quebedeaux, Doucet and Meche.
In their second game, Rayne fell to Iowa, 9-3. The Wolves were limited to five hits in the loss by LeJeune, Keely, Menard and Meche. Delahoussaye was tagged with the loss for the Wolves giving up five hits and tallying one strikeout.
In their third contest of the tournament, the Wolves fell to South Beauregard, 5-2. Tyler LeJeune collected the loss on the mound as he struck out five while giving up five hits. The four Rayne hits were delivered by Thibodeaux (2), Abshire and Broussard.
In their final game of the tournament, the Wolves fell to St. Louis 4-0. Hunter Keely was tagged with the loss n the mound for the Wolves as he struck out one while giving up two runs on five hits. Despite six hits by Meche, Keely, Quebedeaux, Broussard and Abshire, Rayne runners never crossed the plate for a score.
The Wolves will participate in the Eunice High Tournament this weekend, followed by a game on Tuesday, March 12, at Cecilia High School. The Wolves will return home on March 14 when they host Centerville.
