CROWLEY - Crowley police are still investigating the murder of Barbara Savant, 67, who was killed last week in an apparent drug robbery. Arrested in the case was Phillip Credeur, 28, of Crowley. Credeur’s arrest, however, does not mean that the case is closed.

“We are still working the case hard,” said Crowley Chief of Police K.P. Gibson. “We are very confident that Credeur is the main player but we need to be sure that nobody else was working with him. We are presently getting statements from anyone who has had contact with him.”

Credeur was arrested late Friday evening approximately ten hours after authorities found Savant’s body. The case is being investigated as a robbery.

Savant died from multiple stab wounds to the abdomen. Her body was discovered around midday Friday after authorities were contacted regarding suspicious circumstances at her Stutes Addition residence. Upon arrival police discovered the body of an unidentified, white female inside the residence who was unresponsive. The female was later identified as Savant. Police searched for Credeur throughout the day as a ‘person of interest.’

Gibson stated that his investigation uncovered that Savant was moving pills and that Credeur was someone “who frequented her house.”

“This was definitely a robbery for drugs,” said Gibson.

Among the pills that Savant was selling was reportedly the highly addictive painkiller Oxycontin. The drug has been responsible for several overdoses in the Acadiana area and around the country since it was first introduced to the market in 1995. It is normally prescribed to terminally ill patients though there have been several cases of it being carelessly prescribed.

“We don’t stop investigating a crime just because an arrest has been made,” Gibson said. “We need to look into everything and tie up all the loose ends.”
