Louisiana and Georgia kick off at 11:21 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4 at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga. The game can be seen on the SEC Network with Dave Neal and Andre Ware providing the commentary. Locally, fans can watch the game on KADN Fox 15 in Lafayette and WAFB Channel 9 in Baton Rouge.
The Cajuns will face a Bulldogs’ squad that finished the 2009 season at 8-5 after a victory over Texas A&M in the Independence Bowl.
The Cajuns and Bulldogs have never met, in fact, Louisiana has never played a team from the state of Georgia.
The Cajuns look to a very experienced defense as they start the 2010 campaign, with every starter on the defense being either a junior or senior. Senior middle linebacker Grant Fleming, the leader of the defense, was recently named to the Lombardi Award Watch List and is one of three Cajuns on the preseason All-Sun Belt team.
The offense is led by returning quarterback Chris Masson. Masson threw for 2,406 yards in 2009, completing 59.5 percent of his passes with 10 touchdowns. The Miami native posted nine games of 200-plus yards total offense and his 222 completions were just two shy of the school record.
A member of the John Mackey Ward preseason watch list and a preseason All-Sun Belt tight end, Ladarius Green will be a large part of the Cajuns passing game, and one of Masson's top targets. The 6'6" 230 pound junior enters 2010 as UL's all-time leader in receiving yards among tight ends and is currently tied for first in receptions.
The Cajuns special teams are always strong under Bustle, and this year's edition is no different. Preseason All-Sun Belt selection Spencer Ortego returns to punting for the Cajuns while Tyler Albrecht is back to handle the place kicking.
