COLUMBIA – The Crowley Ladies went into Monday’s bi-district playoff game against Caldwell Parish with an upset on their mind.

But visions of a second-round appearance were dashed early as the Ladies committed seven errors in the first four innings before falling to the Lady Spartans, 12-4.

“I thought we were pretty evenly matched going in, but we had some errors early in the game that kind of put us in a hole,” said CHS coach Megan Melancon. “I think a lot of that had to do with our nerves. No one on this team has ever been to the playoffs and I guess they just didn’t know what to expect.”

The Ladies fell behind 5-1 after three innings before scoring four runs in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 5-4.

That was as close as they would get.

Caldwell scored seven runs in the next two innings and held Crowley scoreless the rest of the game.

Olivia Boullion suffered the loss, giving up 12 runs (eight earned) on nine hits and one walk. She struck out four in six innings.

Megan Guidry had two hits and one RBI for the Ladies while Meranda Guidry had two singles. Boullion, Heather Trahan and Skylor Huval each had one hit and Hannah Doucet and Megean Sonnier each drove in one run.

The Ladies finished the season at 15-9 overall.

“This was supposed to be a rebuilding year and most people thought we’d go in and win a couple more games than we did last year, but I had bigger plans than them,” said Melancon. “We worked really hard to improve substantially from last year to this year and I’m very proud of what we were able to accomplish.”
