Carencro man charged with attempted first degree murder; tried to run over officer

RAYNE - On Sunday morning, October 30, the Rayne Police Department was involved in a pursuit that resulted in the arrest of Joshua Marshall , 32, 200 block of Vatican Road, Carencro for attempted first degree murder, driving while intoxicated, aggravated flight, aggravated battery, open alcoholic beverage and driving under suspension.

Chief Stelly advised that the Rayne Police Department received a telephone complaint regarding a reckless driver on Hwy.. 90 approaching Rayne. Joshua Marshall’s vehicle was stopped for traffic violations and the suspect fled from the traffic stop. Rayne Police Officers pursued the vehicle to the Duson eastbound exit where officers attempted to block the subject’s vehicle from escaping back onto the interstate. At that time, Joshua Marshall used his vehicle to ram a parked police unit and as a weapon as he tried to run over a Rayne Police officer.

Joshua Marshall’s vehicle became inoperable when he drove onto an elevated portion of concrete. The suspect continued to resist officers, but was taken into custody with only minor injuries to the suspect. The suspect has been booked into the Rayne Police Department.

The vehicle that the suspect was driving was reported stolen later that day by the suspect’s mother.

The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Department is handling that portion of the investigation.
