Catherine Spaetgens Schexnider beloved wife, mother, MeeMaw, and sister entered eternal life on Friday, July 6, 2012, after a long battle with cancer. Her memorial will be held on Sunday, July 8th with visiting hours from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Duhon Funeral Home in Crowley, La, with funeral services Monday, July 9th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Leo Catholic Church in Roberts Cove, La. Mass will be celebrated by Very Rev. Msgr. Russell Harrington, with co-celebrants Fr. Paul Broussard and Fr. Matthew Higginbotham.

Cathy was born on July 30, 1950 and grew up in Rayne, La. She was employed with Stuller Inc. for 14 years until her retirement in 2008, and worked at South Central Bell for several years before. She was a parishioner and devoted Catholic of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church for many years; her faith in Christ was unwavering and a beacon of strength and serenity throughout her illness and up through the final days of her life. Cathy was foremost a gentle soul who loved her family and put her husband, children, and grandchildren first in her life and in her heart. She was the world's best soccer mom—she supported her children from soccer games to play performances. She loved attending UL softball and baseball games with her husband Harvey.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 42 years, Harvey Schexnider; two sons, Joshua Schexnider and his wife Julie, and Jordan Schexnider; one daughter, Jarin Schexnider; two grandchildren, Charlie and Oliver Schexnider; mother, Bertha Spaetgens; four sisters, Janie Wright, Bobbie Comeaux, Kris Martin and husband Jon, Jojo Gout and Husband Russ; one brother, Henry “Bubba” Spaetgens, Jr. and his wife Donna; and two godchildren, Scott Comeaux and Luke Gout; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Joseph Spaetgens.

A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Mark Pleasant, Cason Pleasant, Briton Pleasant, Bubba Spaetgens, James Spaetgens, and Joey Spaetgens.

Our family requests that donations be sent to Hospice of Acadiana in her name. Thank you.  Duhon Funeral Home, LLC of Crowley will be in charge of the arrangements.  Please send personal condolences to the family at www.duhonfuneralhome.com.
