This mass will be offered on Friday, August 6 at 6 p.m. at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Richard, Louisiana. Father Wayne Duet, Past of St. Edward’s Church will be the main celebrant.
Charlene, known to many as the Little Cajun Saint, was always a faith-filled, spiritual child. She died at the age of 12 of leukemia.
Thousands have visited her grave at St. Edward’s and hundreds more come every year, leaving written prayers, photos, flowers, etc., including items precious to them or belonging to ones they come to pray for. Several have returned to leave words of thanksgiving and some leave testimonials of prayers answered. Many pray for her canonization confirming her sainthood.
The focus of this year’s celebration will be on the Charlene Richard Mission House located in Northern Thailand. At 5 p.m. the rosary will be prayed. Immediately following the rosary, Deacon Reggie Bollich will make a presentation on the Mission House and the work being done at Sarnelli Orphanage.
Fr. Joseph Brennan, author of the book My Name is Charlene, will be in St. Edward’s Hall before mass signing copies of his book. Also, Barbara Gutierrez, author of the book Charlene, will be signing copies of her book.
Prayer cloths made by the St. Edward’s Ladies Altar Society, prayer cards and brochures provided by the Friends of Charlene will also be distributed free of charge. There will be a reception in the hall immediately following the mass.
