Christopher J. Mayfield is proud to announce his candidacy for Crowley City Council - Ward III, Division A.

“Having served as a community advocate in Crowley for several years, I realize there are many concerns of the citizens of Ward III such as the safety issues, the drainage problems and the cleanliness of our community. In addition, I feel Ward III has the potential for more urban development. By promoting and supporting existing business, it could be a draw for new and upcoming businesses. Also, I feel the continual renovation of the Martin Luther King Building is vital to the recreational and educational growth of our children. Our children are our future, therefore, we must invest in them,” said Mayfield.

Mayfield, 38, is the proud father of three children, Lexie Mone’ Mayfield, 15, of Houston, Texas; Christopher Mayfield, Jr., 4, and Braylon Mayfield, 1, both of Crowley; with fiancee Beulah M. Reed. He is the son of Judy (Mayfield) Martin and the late Junius Mayfield. He was reared in Crowley by his mother and step-father, Lester Martin, Jr.

Mayfield is a 1989 graduate of Notre Dame High School. He majored in Insurance and Real Estate at Northeast Louisiana University while on a collegiate football scholarship. At McNeese State University, Mayfield continued his education in Businiess-Finance while on a collegiate baseball scholarship. After being selected in the 1992 Major League Baseball Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers and again in 1993 by the Philadelphia Phillies, Mayfield pursued a professional baseball career while completing his education with a B.S. in Business-Finance.

Over the years, Mayfield has been active in the Crowley community, serving as a member of various civic and social organizations, as well as volunteering as a non-member for other organizations. He is a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church and a member of St. Theresa’s “Salt of the Earth” Choir. He is a member of the Knights of Peter Claver (Council 51) and a member of Rotary International (District 6200). He is a member of the West Crowley Beautification Committee, as well as the “National Day of Prayer” Task team. He is a member of the Crowley Kiwanis Boxing Club Committee. He is a member of the Acadia Parish Career Expo Committee. Also, he enjoyed in the past volunteering as a baseball/softball coach for 10 years at the Crowley Recreation Department. He is an annual volunteer for the St. Theresa Church Bazaar and an occasional volunteer for Ms. Helen’s Soup Kitchen.

“I pledge to work with the mayor and the City Council to resolve any matters concerning the progress of this great city of Crowley. I pledge to exhibit the upmost respect and loyalty while representing the citizens of Ward III. For being a public official is not a gift, it’s an honor!” he said.

“Please consider me for City Council, Ward III, Division A. Your vote and support on Saturday, October 2, would be appreciated.”
