Chuch Point, Rayne and Iota fare well at area meets

CHURCH POINT – The Church Point Lady Bears and the Rayne Lady Wolves had impressive showings at the Bear Paw Relays, placing second and third respectively in the field of six.

Cecilia won the meet on the girls’ side with 188 points while Church Point was second (106) and Rayne third (86). Comeaux, Breaux Bridge and St. Martinville rounded out the standings.

Church Point was led by Robbie Dailey’s first-place finish in the javelin (90-4) and Shondrika Boast’s win in the 400-meter dash (1:02.71).

Alexis Ray added a second-place showing in the 1600-meter run (7:50.89) and Kaitlyn LeJeune was third (8:26.60).

Brittany Lewis added to the Lady Bears’ point total with a third in the 100-meter dash (13.58) while Church Point’s 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams each placed second. Their 4x400 team was third.

In the field events, Bailey Calais was third in the javelin (79-0) and Morgan Daigle was third in the long jump (13-10).

Rayne was paced by Nia Taylor who placed first in the triple jump (32-1), second in the long jump (14-5) and third in the 200-meter dash (28.32).

Erin LeBlanc finished second in the 110 hurdles (20.95) and the 300 hurdles (1:01.33) while Rayne’s 4x400 relay team also claimed runnersup honors.

Claiming third-place honors for RHS include Brandy Gibson in the 400 (1:05.98), Sidney Fontenot in the 800 (2:49.22) and Jamie Pryce in the discus (87-11).

On the boys’ side, Church Point finished fourth with 83 points behind Breaux Bridge (146), Cecilia (124) and St. Martinville (99). Comeaux was fifth (79) and Rayne was sixth (25).

Church Point logged two firsts on the day: James Bellard, Desmond Bellard, Tyler Veronie and Zach Meche teamed to win the 4x400 relay (3:31.57) while Laine Miller won the javelin (150-3).

Meche also placed second in the 400 (52.22) and Veronie was third in the 800 (2:13.18). Josh LaVergne was third in the javelin (136-10) and the Bears’ 4x200 relay team also placed third.

Rayne logged a first in the pole vault with an 11-6 vault by Bryor Babineaux while Lucas Daigle was third (11-0). Trent Duhon also earned a third place showing in the 110 hurdles (18-17).

RAM RELAYS

WESTLAKE – Iota finished up preparations for this week’s District 5-AA Track and Field Championships by participating in the Westlake Rotary Ram Relays Friday.

The Bulldogs placed fifth on the boys’ side with 52 points and the Lady Dogs were seventh with 50.

Brandon Fantroy paced the Bulldogs, finishing first in the 300 hurdles (42.22), second in the 100 hurdles (16.21) and third in the triple jump (39-11).

Conner Meyer won the pole vault (11-0) and J.P. Ward was second in the 110 hurdles (15.70).

Chelsea Welsh had the only top-three finish for the Lady Dogs, placing second in the discus (99-1).
