Church Point falls to Westlake

WESTLAKE - The Westlake Rams kept their grip on at least a share of the District 4-3A title with a 35-7 win over Church Point.

The Rams (4-5, 4-0) jumped out to a 7-0 lead when Devin Eaglin scored on a 6-yard run and Trey Johnson kicked the PAT.

Eaglin then added touchdown runs of 1 and 7 yards to push the Rams ahead 21-0.

Tyler Stoddard scored on a 15-yard run to give the Rams a 28-0 halftime lead.

Justin Nordberg added a 6-yard run in the third period and Johnson’s kick gave the Rams a 35-0 advantage.

Church Point avoided the shutout when Dexter Charles scored on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter and Brock Latiolais’ kick closed the gap to 35-7.

Westlake outgained Church Point 259-88 on the ground while the Bears passed for 69 yards and Westlake added 24 yards through the air.

Von Duplechain lead Church Point on the ground with 15 carries for 81 yards.

Westlake’s Eaglin finished with 16 carries for 92 yards, while Justin Nordberg added 66 yards on seven carries.

Church Point quarterback Ty Leger completed 4-of-11 passed for 69 yards and an interception.

The Bears (4-5, 1-3) close the regular season Friday with a home game against rival Eunice (4-5, 3-1).
