CROWLEY - The Crowley City Council met Tuesday night to consider a variety of motions including the suspension of the fluoridation of Crowley’s water until further research could be done and a motion to advertise for bids for a new roofs at the Central Fire Station and the North Crowley Fire Station.

The meeting was missing four of its members including Vernon ‘Step’ Martin who was in DeQuincy representing the city in other matters.

The meeting began with public hearings the first of which was to amend the budget for the city of Crowley for the fiscal year beginning September 1, 2009 and ending August 31, 2010. The council agreed to pass the ordinance.

During the Utility Committee’s report Mayor Greg Jones said that LAWCO had agreed to suspend putting fluoride in Crowley’s water supply until further research could be done on the matter. The matter has been brought up before the council on a couple of previous occasions.

While local dentists and state and federal dental organizations have agreed that the practice of putting fluoride in the water supply was not dangerous, there are obviously many who are still uncomfortable with the issue.

Councilman Elliot Dore brought a booklet containing facts about fluoridation with him to the meeting.

“I urge each of you to read this booklet,” said Dore. “It is filled with facts on the matter.”

During the Zoning and Annexation Committee’s report a motion was passed to increase the required parking spaces for two family dwellings from one to two spaces for each unit.

Also, during the Zoning and Annexation’s report, three motions were passed regarding trailer and mobile home parks in the city limits. The first of which was to prohibit the establishment of any new trailer or mobile home parks within the city limits. The second motion which was passed was to prohibit the expansion of land areas for any existing mobile home parks in the city limits. The third motion passed was to verify an ordinance which said that two trailers or mobile homes on the same parcel of land would constitute that land as a mobile home park.

During the Public Building Committee’s report, a motion was passed to advertise for bids to repair/build new roofs on the Central Fire Station and the North Crowley Sub Fire Station.

In the resolutions report, city attorney Tom Regan said that Crowley Police Chief K.P. Gibson could sell some used Kenwood radio based units and portable radios at his own discretion.

Also, during the resolutions portion of the meeting the council agreed to write a letter of resolution to support the offshore drilling moratorium in alliance with other cities in the state.

Alderwoman Laurita Pete dissented stating that “we don’t know exactly how this will affect the safety of the people and the environment.”

The next regularly scheduled committee meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 4 p.m. The next city council meeting is set for Tuesday, August 10.

Isn't it strange, doctors cannot force one person to take a drug, yet the government wants to force everyone to be drugged with fluoride, a prescription drug, against their will and with no medical supervision, no control over how much you consume and no treatment for side effects.

Fluoridation not only causes cancer, brittle bones, etc., (see www.fluoridealert.org) but is an absolute waste of tax money. People only drink 1/2% of the water they use.

For example, for every $1000 of fluoride chemical added to water, $995 would be directly wasted down the drain in toilets, showers, dishwashers, etc., $5 would be consumed in water by the people, and less than $0.50 would be consumed by children. Can you think of a more wasteful government program?

You can read the test results of dentists reported in 2007 Yoder K.M. for Indiana and Illinois. Just go to pubmed.com and be shocked. Most dentists have no clue topical posteruptive is the new theory and ingested fluoride like fluoridation is old disproved theory. Exactly what the ADa and health department still promote full well knowing nearly useless except for damaging kids enamel for life. The huge Uk York Review looked at 3200 studies and admitted very poor quality of all with not one class A study ever done. Unable to prove safety and any benefit was small of none. They did prove 15% dental fluorosis became 48% damaged after fluoridation with 12.5% so damaged to need cosmetic repairs. This is the part that puts lots of money in dental practices. The bigger issue is fluoride is more toxic then lead and 11 EPA unions asked for a immediate moratorium before congress in 2005. They first asked in 1985 and sued to halt in 1986. The EPA scientists did the math and the safe goal for fluoride is ZERO just like arsenic and lead have. The headquarters union refused to work in a building in DC until the fluoride was removed from the water. The NRC 2006 said by a 12-0 vote the current max is not safe and should be lowered. Management has refused to act so far but the science shows ZERO is the only safe level for all risk groups at all total intake levels we now know exist. This is a cumulative toxin building levels in our bones and tissue for a lifetime. That is the real issue not teeth.

I though dentists would know the most about fluoride. They keep on proving they are best at repeating ADA talking points very incorrect about current fluoride science. Most promote fluoridation not aware of the many risks and most never treating the poor with the greatest and ugliest fluoride toxic enamel discoloration. Dental incomes have soared way past doctors after making far less just two decades ago. Cosmetic repairs often need to be redone 4 more times during a lifetime so never stop rewarding with income. They are much more profitable then cavities ever were. Like mentioned before 80% of the cavities happen to 20% of the kids usually the poor and minorities often. Poor kids on medicaid have a hard time getting any dental care so in 37 states now doctors do the preventive care like protective sealants or directions on caring for the poor kids teeth. It just was not getting done by dentists.

Scotland just admitted huge cavity reductions not from fluoridation but from teaching kids how and why to brush and care for teeth and making sure every kid saw a dentist at least once a year. That turned around so many kids needing hospital visits to pull teeth as a last resort.

In the US blacks and other minorities are much less likely to see a dentist yearly and many ever. Most dentists flat refuse to treat the poor claiming too much paperwork and not enough money.Michael Easley DDS Florida Oral Health got less paperwork and more money in Ohio and New York but not one additional dentist treated kids. He believed they just did not want their offices looking like social services. I know only 4 out of 200 dentists in Volusia County serve medicaid kids. 45,000 of 49,000 are under served with many never seeing a dentist. One public health dentist can make only a slight dent in this dental disaster most dentists turn their back on. I know because I have pleaded for dentists to treat the poor with no response. Actually they did have a secret meeting March 10 2009 at the health department to plan how to silence me and rebut the science. Their plan was to not allow me to speak at the upcoming Fluoride Workshop in Port Orange Fl. The commission listened to only fluoridation promoters banning others against from speaking. The commission then voted to retain fluoridation after silencing the opposition who asked to speak. I have never been able to obtain what was said about me or actions to be taken but did receive the power points of the ADA and Health department for Florida. Our public records law is made to protect citizens and our First Amendment for free speech.

Congratulations, that's wonderful news. Dentists continue to try to bully legislators into continuing fluoridation when it benefits no one except the dentists who are pushing it, whether they realize it or not.

The CDC says that up to 48% of school children sport dental fluorosis (discolored teeth) which brings in loads of money to dentists to cover up with caps, veneers, bonding, microabrasion, etc. This allows dentists the financial security to continue to neglect the population that needs their care the most - low income people. 80% of dentist refuse Medicaid patients and 130 million Americans don't have dental insurance.

Children have died from the consequences of untreated tooth decay. No one ever died from the consequences of too little fluoride. In fact, no human ever developed tooth decay from ingesting no fluoride since fluoride is neither a nutrient or essential for healthy teeth.

Louisiana children are dentist deficient not fluoride deficient. Every dentist who promotes fluoridation better be accepting Medicaid patients or else their make believe concern for low income people will truly ring hollow.

Bottom line - Ingesting fluoride should be a freedom of choice issue.

Folic acid is added to bread to prevent spina bifida, vitamin D is added to milk to prevent rickets. Fluoride added to water prevents dentists from treating low-income people. Dentists prefer to treat their water instead.
