Members of the Crowley Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors met Wednesday, July 21, 2010 for their annual planning summit. The group assembles at the start of each fiscal year for an extended meeting to set goals for the upcoming year. During the meeting, board members are able to address these goals and brainstorm as to how each member can be a contributing part in the forthcoming year. The retreat was a success in preparation for chamber events such as the gumbo cook-off, farmers’ appreciation dinner, and other networking and educational opportunities throughout the year.

The board also addressed ongoing issues that contribute to the growth and development of our city and parish. The chamber will continue its efforts to work with elected officials and other community leaders to improve the quality of life for our citizens and businesses. “I’m excited about the diverse Board that we have working together this year.  At our retreat we were able to set goals and get focused on the year ahead.  We feel like we are a strong team that is poised to advocate for and serve the business community,” stated Chairman of the Board, Bryan Francis.

Prior to the planning session, board members joined thousands of other citizens at the Rally for Economic Survival at the Cajundome. Realizing the long-term effects that the moratorium will have on our local economies, the group decided to devote a portion of the day to support efforts to reinstate drilling off of our coast. According to Chamber President, Kayla Link, “We realize how vital the oil and gas industry is to our region. The moratorium will not only affect local jobs and our local economy, but also that of the nation, raising costs and threatening our energy security.”

After the Rally concluded, the members of the board continued their meeting where ideas were plentiful. All of the members are hopeful for the upcoming year and are eager to contribute to the community and economic development of the City of Crowley and all of Acadia Parish.
