Citizen of the Year

HAMMOND -- Services will be Saturday for Melvin Leverett, first minority owner of a realty business in Mobile, Ala., and former owner of 10 McDonald’s Restaurants on the north shore of Lake Ponchatrain. He died Oct. 31 at age 63.

Leverett was a founding member of the Hammond/Ponchatoula Rotary Club and on the boards of a number of organizations, including AmSouth Bank and Regions Bank.

He was recognized as Louisiana’s Minority Business Person of the Year and Hammond Citizen of the Year.

Survivors include his wife Renetta, a son and two daughters.

Arrangements are by Brandon Thompson Funeral Home.

Restaurateur

ERATH -- Services will be Friday for restaurateur Lynn Goutierrez. He died Nov. 3 at age 62.

Goutierrez founded Lynn G’s Seafood and Steakhouse and was former president of the La. Restaurant Assn. Acadian Chapter and board member of the LRA.

He was a successful horse trainer and owner and named a Living Legend at the Erath Museum.

Survivors include his wife Connie, a son and a daughter.

David Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Cajun musician

LAFAYETTE -- Services will be Friday for veterans advocate and noted Cajun musician Alex “Brud” Broussard, Sr. He died Nov. 2 at age 84.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and commander of the Disabled Veterans of Louisiana.

Broussard was a regular guest on the Grand Ole’ Opry and hosted multiple Cajun music shows. He helped build Acadian Village and St. Basil Church.

Survivors include his wife Betty and six children.

Arrangements are by Fountain.
