HOMER -- Services will be Monday in Arlington National Cemetery for retired U.S. Navy Capt. Jackson Richard. He died Nov. 6 at age 80.
Richard was commissioning commanding officer of the USS Queenfish, the first submarine designed specifically for under-ice operations and first go from Atlantic to Pacific under the polar ice cap.
Richard’s shore assignments included special assistant, White House Executive Office of the President, commanding officer U.S. Naval Submarine Base, Pearl Harbor.
After retiring, he was director of nuclear operations for Mid South Utilities, then vice president for nuclear affairs for Mississippi Power & Light.
Survivors include his wife Sandra and two children.
BATON ROUGE -- Services will be Saturday for geologist Dr. Joseph Mills. He died this month at age 93.
Mills was a mine geologist in Canada before becoming professor and chairman of the Geology Dept. at Washington State University for more than 30 years.
Survivors include his wife, Yola and two sons.
