Environmental engineer

NEW ROADS -- Services will be Friday for environmental engineering expert Robert Christopher. He died Jan. 4 at age 87.

He was a torpedo bomber pilot in World War II and former director of research and development for United Gas and Pipeline (Houston Power and Light).

He developed wastewater disposal procedures for Disney World and in China and was instrumental in founding the Center of Energy Studies at LSU.

Survivors include a son.

Agronomist

BATON ROUGE -- Services will be Saturday for agronomist Dr. Russell Miller. He died Jan. 4 at age 88.

An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, Miller was professor of agronomy at LSU for almost 40 years.

Survivors include his wife Ann, two sons and two daughters.

Resthaven is in charge of arrangements.

LAFAYETTE -- Former Lafayette writer and musician Orpha Valentine died Jan. 2 in Verona, Wisc. She was 84.

Valentine was author of “Lafayette, It’s Past, People and Progress,” and associate editor of several regional cookbooks.

She was among the founders of the Lafayette Acquatic and Racquet Club and the organizer of an annual women’s tennis tournament.

Survivors include a son and a daughter.
