Doctor, author

LAFAYETTE --Services are Wednesday for retired physician and author Dr. Lawrence Swan. He died Feb. 12 at age 98.

Swan was co-founder of Lafayette Medical Laboratory and was medical director and staff pathologist at several area hospitals until retiring in 1982,

He was a veteran of World War II who after the war served as Medical Director Regular Corps in the U.S. Public Health Service, the equivalent of colonel in military standing, and as chief of clinical lab and pathology at the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital in New Orleans.

He was author or co-author of many scientific publications.

Survivors include his wife Anita and three sons.

Arrangements were by Fountain Memorial.



Daylily developer

BATON ROUGE -- Services will be Thursday for businessman and nationally recognized flower gardener Edward Beckham. He died Feb. 14 at age 97.

Beckham founded Capitol City Distributors, a wholesale broom and mop manufacturing company which flourished for three decades.

After retiring, Beckham grew and created award-winning daylilies, some recognized internationally as some of the best.

Survivors include two daughters.

Arrangements are by Rabenhorst.



Educator, builder

BATON ROUGE -- Services will be Thursday for retired educator and home builder Frank Guidroz, Jr. He died Feb. 13 at age 80.

Guidroz, a decorated veteran of the Korean War, was former Central Middle School and Stark Academy principal.

As co-owner of K&F Builders, he constructed many homes in the Baton Rouge area.

He was a featherweight boxing champion while a student at LSU.

Survivors include his wife Mary and four daughters.

Arrangements are by Resthaven.
