BREAUX BRIDGE – Services will be Friday for long-time St. Martin Parish Clerk of Court Allen Blanchard, Sr. He died Tuesday at age 71.
Blanchard was elected clerk in 1995 and re-elected three times unopposed.
He retired in April 2010 because of illness.
Blanchard was the first clerk to implement a modern imaging system and initiated a process to encapsulate historical records dating back to the 1700’s.
He was instrumental in the construction of the new St. Martin Parish Courthouse.
Prior to serving as Clerk of Court, he was Chief Deputy Assessor, retiring with 27 years’ service.
He also served 23 years in the Louisiana National Guard. He commanded a company of the 256th Infantry Division and served at the battalion and brigade staff levels.
He was active in a number of community organizations.
Survivors include his wife, Georgie.

PLAQUEMINE – Services for active Democratic leader Murphy Laurent will be Saturday. He died March 8 at age 88.
Laurent, a World War II fveteran of Iwo Jima, was chairman of the West Baton Rouge Democratic Executive Committee until he became ill. He served on the committee for 27 years.
Survivors include his wife Jeanette and a daughter.
Arrangements are by Wilbert of Port Allen.
ZACHARY – Services will be Friday for former principal and parish school official Prentiss Partin. He died MOnday at age 61.
He was a teacher, coach and principal at Zachary High and retired as a director for East Baton Rouge Parish schools in the Central office.
Survivors include his wife Jeanne, a son and a daughter.

JP, deputy assessor
LEWISBURG – Services will be Friday for former justice of the peace and deputy assessor Lula LeJeune. She died March 9 at age 79.
She was JP for the 19th Justice Court for 18 years and a deputy St. Landry asessor for 20 years,
She was active in Little Theatre and the Pink Ladies and was a noted pageant judge.
Survivors include her husband Harold, two sons and a daughter.
