Former Kaplan chief

KAPLAN – Services will be Tuesday for former police chief Alton ‘Tan’ Romero, Jr. He died March 13 at age 91.

Romero, a decorated World War II veteran, was chief from 1986 until 1994. He was a Vermilion sheriff’s deputy for 20 years.

Survivors include his wife Linda and two children.

Arrangements are by Vincent.

Retired LSU official

BATON ROUGE – Services for retired LSU vice chancellor and professor emeritus Dr. Lynn Pesson were Monday. He died Thursday at age 83.

Pesson began LSU service with the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Sevice and retired as vice chancellor for student affairs.

After retirement, he served as executive director of the International Food and Agricultural Dept., then was president of a 57-school consortium of colleges and universities devoted to international development.

Survivors include his wife Earline, two sons and a daughter,

Zachary chief


ZACHARY – Services will be Wednesday for Chief of Police John Herty. He died March 12.

He had been chief sinc 2006. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and active in civic and school affairs.

Survivors include his wife Cheryl.

Arrangements are by Charlet.
