Main Street manager

LEESVILLE -- Services for Main Street manager Richard “Dicky” West will be Friday. He died at age 54.

West, Leesville High Alumnus of the Year in 2010, was president of the West Louisiana Historical and Genealogy Association and represented Vernon Parish on the Democratic State Central Committee.

Survivors include his parents, a brother and two sisters.



Pioneering architect

BATON ROUGE – Services were April 16 for architectural engineer Henry Thurman, Jr. He died April 10 at age 84.

Thurman was the first African-American to become a licensed architect in Louisiana and founded the Southern University School of Architecture & College of Engineering.

Survivors include a son.



Med technologist

LAFAYETTE – Services were April 14 for medical technologist James Boone. He died April 11.

He was executive vice president of Acadiana Medical Laboratories for many years, a past president of the La. State Society for Medical Technologists and past state Medical Technologist of the Year.

He was a native of Opelousas and a U.S. Army veteran.



Former home service agent

LAFAYETTE – Services were April 14 for LP&L home service agent and businesswoman Patricia Michot. She died April 11 at age 85.

She held various positions in husband Louis J. Michot, Jr.’s businesses, including Burger Chef Restaurants of Louisiana.

Survivors include her husband and eight children.

Civic activist

LAFAYETTE – Services were April 13 for civic activist Lessie Wynne She died April 8 at age 88.

A registered nurse and widow of Dr. Edward Wynne, Sr., she was a member of a number of clubs, boards and institutions, honored several times for her volunteer work.

Survivors include three children.

Long-time mayor

MONTPELIER – Services for Mayor Bryan Dykes, Sr., were April 15. He died April 12 at age 63.

Dykes had been mayor here since 1974. He was a board member of the Bank of Greensburg for 30 years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam and president of Dykes Feed & Fertilizer.

Survivors include his wife Gloria and two sons.

Civic leader, banker

FRANKLIN – Services were April 15 for civic leader and banker James Poindexter. He died April 11 at age 87.

A Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he opened Franklin Cigar & Tobacco in 1948.

He was a charter member of the St. Mary Chamber of Commerce and a member of the board of Commercial Bank & Trust.

Survivors include his wife Kathryn and three children.
