BATON ROUGE – Services will be Thursday for Mildred Clark, the first black woman to work as a supervisor for the East Baton Rouge Parish School system. She died April 28 at age 102.
A native of Minden, Clark held a BS in social work from Bryn Mawr College and a BA in sociology from Oberlin College and a Master’s from Columbia.
After working as director of the Hume Center for Child Development in New Orleans she became supervisor of child welfare and attendance in East Baton Rouge Parish.
She was the first, non-paid, executive director of the Community Association for the Welfare of School Children.
Survivors include a son.
