BATON ROUGE – Services will be Saturday in Alexandria for Julian T. White, the first black faculty member of LSU. He died July 19 at age 73.
White, who operated W.A. White Funeral Home in his native Alexandria and an architecture fimr in Bato Rouge, was a retired professor of architecture at LSU, which he joined in 1971 after teaching at Southern University and Tuskegee University. He retired in 2003.
He was a member of a number of years of the State Board of Architectural Examiners.
Survivors include his wife Loretta and several children.
Long-time fire chief
WOODWORTH – Services will be Saturday for former fire chief and mayor protemp Richard A. Butler. He died July 19 at age 68.
Butler was a founding member of the volunteer fire department here and served as alderman and mayor protemp for more than 30 years.
Survivors include his wife Shawn, a son and a daughter.
