Special Education pioneer

NEW IBERIA – Services will be Wednesday for Special Education specialist Carey James. She died Aug. 4 at age 95.

She organized and began special vocational classes in Iberia Parish that became the model for future such classes statewide. She taught Special Education at ULL and began the right to read and spur programs in Iberia and St. Martin Parishes, programs that became model schools.

Survivors include two sons.

Arrangements are by Pellerin.

Former councilman

YOUNGSVILLE – Services for former city councilman Jesse Vallot will be Thursday. He died at age 72.

He was former owner of a supermarket and chairman of the Alleman Center Cafeteria Fund.

Survivors include his wife Betty, a son and three daughters.
