Two-war vet, sugar expert

BATON ROUGE – Services for former colonel and sugar expert Francis Schaffer will be Wednesday. He died Aug. 19 at age 88.

He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. A registered professional engineer, he was president of the Schaffer Global Group and its predecessor companies and an expert in sugar and related agribusiness sectors. He was also a partner in SS&S Fabricators.

Survivors include his wife Andina and several children.

Arrangements are by Rabenhorst.

Designer, former resort operator

LAKE CHARLES – Services for architectural designer and Mission Service Corps volunteer Ronald Robicheaux will be Saturday. He died Aug. 13 in Harrison, Ark. at age 73.

He was director of Holly Beach Christian Resort until it was destroyed by Hurricane Rita, after which he moved to Harrison and opened a mission there.

As a young adult he played drums for the Flat Tops and other popular groups in the Franklin and Lafayette areas.

Survivors include his wife Christina and five children.
