LSU benefactor

BATON ROUGE – Services for former president of the LSU National Alumni Assn. Paul Arst are pending. He died Sept. 1 at age 91.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, earning the Purple Heart and Bronze Star at the Battle of the Bulge. He was a Prudential Insurance Agent. He and his late wife Ellen established endowed scholarships at LSU’s College of Business, College of Education and School of Social Welfare.

Survivors include a son.

Arrangements are by Rabenhorst.

Former swim champ

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Services for champion LSU swimmer Michael Nelson, will be Sept. 14 in Baton Rouge. He died Aug. 12 at age 54.

He was a former member of the LSU swim team and state champion in the 100-yard backstroke.

Survivors include two sons.

Shell research vessel project manager

LAFAYETTE – Services for retired Shell Oil project manager Aubrey Bassett, Jr. will be Tuesday. He died Sept. 2 at age 86.

He was a geophysicist at Shell for more than 40 years, in charge of marine seismic data acquisition for Shell Offshore and project manager for design and construction of the research vessel Shell America, the largest and most advanced data acquisition vessel of its time.

Survivors include his wife Laurenell, a son and two daughters.

Arrangements are by Martin & Castille.

Former jury president

PRAIRIEVILLE – Services will be Thursday for former Ascension Parish Police Jury president Alan Braud, Sr. He died Sept. 1 at age 69.

He was a cattleman and former owner of U.S.A. Auto Truck Stop.

Survivors include his wife Linda, two sons and a daughter.

Arrangements are by Ourso.

Women's advocate

BATON ROUGE – Women’s issues advocate Jeanette Singleton died Aug. 31 at age 90.

She was instrumental in legislative passage of measures regarding insurance coverage for surviving spouses, laws used as models for the federal COBRA legislation.

Survivors include four sons and a daughter.
