Long-time clerk of court

CROWLEY – Services for long-time clerk of court Joseph Barousse, Sr. will be Wednesday. He died Oct. 28 at age 87.

He was a US Navy veteran of World War II. In 1968, he succeeded his father, Homer P. Barousse, as clerk of court in Acadia Parish, holding the post until July 2000, when his son Robert succeeded him. He was a former president of the Louisiana Clerks of Court Association and served on the Clerk’s Retirement Board.

Survivors include his wife Evelyn, his son and a daughter.

Creole preservationist

MELROSE – Services will be Wednesday for preservationist Terrel Delphin, Jr. He died Oct. 26 at age 74.

He was instrumental in the Board of Regents decision to create the Louisiana Creole Heritage Center at Northwestern State University and assisted in development of data that resulted in creation of Cane River Creole National Park. He retired as an assistant commissioner in the La. Dept of Agriculture and Forestry, then became coordinator of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness in Natchitoches Parish.

Survivors include his wife Lillie and a daughter.

Valve maker, two-war vet

ST. MARTINVILLE – Services for oilfield valve manufacturer Gilbert Lastrapes, Jr. will be Tuesday. He died Oct. 28 at age 85.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War and the owner and president of Burton Valve Corp.

Survivors include several children.
