Noted music educator

DENTON, Texas – Services for former music educator Dr. Louis Alton will be Saturday in Baton Rouge, La. She died Dec. 29 at age 97.

She was a music therapist for the Red Cross during World War II and the first woman president of the Louisiana Music Educators Association. She directed the undergraduate music program at Louisiana Tech for six years before joining the faculty of North Texas State, from which she retired.

Arrangements are by Rabenhorst.

Chemical researcher

BATON ROUGE – Retired chemical engineer Michael Dagani died Jan. 1 at age 75.

He was director of chemical research and development for Ethyl Corporation for 24 years. He held numerous patents and was involved in the early development of the drug ibuprofen.

Survivors include his wife Carol, a daughter and two step-children.

No services are planned.

Distinguished teacher

NEW ORLEANS – Services for distinguished teacher Kathleen Baker will be Saturday. She died Dec. 31.

She was a St. Bernard Parish teacher for more than 30 years and twice named one of the nation’s outstanding teachers.

Survivors include two sisters.

Arrangements are by Lakelawn.
