Former managing editor

BATON ROUGE – Services for journalist jack Lord will be Thursday. He died Jan. 11 at age 80.

He was a former managing editor of the State Times and had been a reporter there and at the Alexandria Town Talk, where he also served a period as city editor. He also worked for the LSU Extension Service.

Survivors include his wife Anne and four daughters.

Tree farmer

NORWOOD – Services for former Tree Farmer of the Year Faye Norwood will be Friday. She died Jan. 14 at age 87.

She was a lifetime member of the La. Forestry Assn and was Tree Farmer of the Year in 1997.

Survivors include four daughters.

Arrangements are by Charlet, Clinton.

Former Murphy Oil VP

BATON ROUGE – Services for petroleum engineer and retired Murphy Oil executive Alvin Simpson will be Thursday. He died Jan. 14 at age 87.

He was a US Navy veteran of World War II. He was a 40-year employee of Murphy Oil, El Dorado, Ark., retiring as vice president.

Survivors include his wife Helen and son and a daughter.

Long-time developer

METAIRIE – Services for building/developer James Culotta will be Thursday. He died Jan. 13 at age 98.

He was a pioneer in the building/development business and a significant contributor to Jefferson Parish’s growth in the mid-20th Century. He developed and owned numerous subdivisions, motels, office buildings, shopping centers and restaurants over a 60-year career and was a founding member of the Jefferson Planning and Zoning Commission.

Survivors include a son and a daughter.

Arrangements are by Lakelawn.
