Duck Festival organizer

GUEYDAN -- Services will be Friday for Dorothy Broussard, owner of a popular drive-in restaurant and an organizer of the Duck Festival. She died Oct. 19 at age 83.

Broussard opened the family business, Dot’s Drive-In, in 1962 and it was a hangout for years.

She also worked as Vermilion Parish liaison for Rep. Sammy Theriot for years.

She was a Duck Festival Association organizer and senior pageant coordinator for 15 years. She and her husband Rodney was 1993 Festival honorees.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter.

Arrangements are by Vincent, Gueydan.

Killed in action

METAIRIE -- Services will be Friday for U.S. Army Specialist Matthew C. Powell, killed in action on Oct. 12 on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

He was a member of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division and a graduate of Northshore High.

Garden of Memories, Metairie, is in charge of arrangements.
