Descendants attend Kibodeaux family reunion

The home of John and Janet Kibodeaux of Rayne served as the setting on Sunday, March 6, 2011, for a family reunion held in remembrance of Joseph and Ina Monceax Kibodeaux.

Mrs. Kibodeaux was born in Abbeville, raised in Crowley in a sharcropper’s family, and later married and raised her family in Rayne while employed as a seamstress.

Mr. Kibodeaux was born in Egan and was raised in Rayne. He was a sharecropper, worked for the railroad, and also built homes as a carpenter until he retired.

The couple’s children include Lawrence James Kibodeaux of Bogalusa, John Allen Kibodeaux of Rayne, Ina Marie Kibodeaux Richard Mouton of New Iberia, and JoAnn Kibodeaux Constantin of Indian Bayou.

The couple’s descendants include 22 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Members of the eldest generation in attendance for the reunion were John Allen Kibodeaux, Sr., Ina Marie Kibodeaux Richard Mouton, and JoAnn Kibodeaux Constantin.

The eldest family member in attendance was John Allen Kibodeaux, Sr. of Rayne, 69 years of age.

The youngest family member in attendance was Seth Peltier, five-month-old son of Jarret and Courtney Machen Peltier of St. Rose, La.

Traveling the farthest to attend the reunion was James Kibodeaux of Manhattan, Kansas.

Reunion committee members were James Kibodeaux, John Kibodeaux, Jr. and Teri Kibodeaux Peltier.

Against a backdrop of Mardi Gras decor, a menu of Cajun specialties was enjoyed by approximately 60 guests, in addition to music provided by a DJ.
